Ani goes to Germany

Germany is her country in goal to study. Inspired by Mr. Habibie, The 3^rd President of Indonesia,  Ani truly wants to continue her study, perhaps her master and doctoral degree, in Germany. God bless her that  Ani was chosen for this program, Study Visit to Germany, which makes her get closer to her goal, to her dream, to know further about Germany.

Twelve days  Ani was there,  Ani didn’t know how much  Ani said for her gratefulness.  Ani could learn like german student there.  Ani learned so much about how the way they learned mathematics, how  Ani could use mathematics in real life and so on. Other side,  Ani also learned about the culture of german like how the way they respect to time, respect to environment, etc.  Ani was so grateful because it changes her mind to become a good one in the future.

In academic side,  Ani learned about few things about mathematics. In University Technology of Dresden,  Ani learned about Ordinary Differential Equation and Graph Theory. Ordinary differential equation that  Ani learned there about Discontinuous Galer Kin Methods. This method used Euclidean and Lipschitz condition to proof the equation. This method said about so many proof of Lemma and maybe  Ani had to think more to understood this methods. But overall, it was an interesting side.

Graph Theory.  Ani actually had learned before at my 4^th semester.  Ani truly understood what the lecture said to her and  Ani felt this things is so important in real life, for example to determine the optimum path from one location to the other one, it can be used in so many production company. There are few symbols which different with  Ani learned in IPB, like  Ani used to use vertex but there  Ani used vetice. But  Ani doesn’t matter so much because  Ani could follow fastly.  Ani also learned about the algorithm to determine optimum path called by Djikstra Algorithm.  Ani never learn before. This algorithm is good to make path with so many vertexes. This algorithm needs more time but it can  find the path with the most minimum cost correctly. The lecture gave us some exercises to make us more understand about graph theory and  Ani enjoyed it so much.

In next week,  Ani moved to Kassel City to studied at Kassel University. In this campus,  Ani learned about Numerical Method and Mathematical Modelling. Before talked about those things,  Ani got the information about the current research from Kassel University and Bu Endar also presented current research too.  Ani liked the way Mr. Andreas Meister welcome us. He is so humble, the lecture who wants for student’s attention so much, and personally  Ani liked the way he spoke English because it was so easy to catch in her ears, so  Ani could get more information he gave.

Talking about numerical method,  Ani learned about some methods.  Ani learned about the inception of splitting-scheme which is the basic method of numerical method.  Ani learned about consistency and converge of the result of numerical method she got, so she could make sure that the result is closer enough to the real result. Next method  Ani learned about Jacobi Method and Gauss-Seidel Method which are how could we use the splitting-scheme. Those method are also she’d try on octave program (on PC) but this is maybe more difficult because  Ani didn’t really like programming. But overall,  Ani could understand what we learned.

Next,  Ani learned about mathematical modelling. The lecture said that she had taught mathematical modelling to student of high school. When  Ani learned it there,  Ani knew that so many evaluations in the ways  Ani learned mathematical modelling in her campus. For example, it should be more interactive, it should be slowly how we can think about the procedure for getting the best model, it should not only a lot of problem and answer, but also how we can finally get the answer. Learning mathematical modelling there makes me open her mind that actually we can be more competent than we are now with use the right way to learn mathematical modelling. Again,  Ani was so grateful!

Not only about academic, Her study to Germany gives her so much about social culture there. She is always amazed about punctual habit, discipline, etc. For example in traffic,  Ani saw someone that against traffic light is so rarely. They all respect each other, not only with the other driver but with pedestrian too. It’s totally different with our country. Furthermore,   Ani saw people there when they were walking is so fast no matter what they brought, heavy bag or suitcase. That’s why  Ani called them respect to time so much.

Ani also went to some places that had an incredible view. She went to Elbe River, Prague, historical bulding of Berlin, like Berlin Wall and Parliamentary Building, and went to Hercules Kassel. Some of her friends and  Ani also went to Allianz Arena. It had an amazing field, design, building that so modern with high technology there.  Ani was so happy  Ani could go there.

Food, perhaps becomes the otherside was very interesting. In the fact, german food was completely different with Indonesian food and personally  Ani didn’t like it at all. One time  Ani wanted to eat salty food but the food  Ani ate was not too salty, or wanted to eat sweet food but that was not too sweet, etc.  Ani felt like all food there always tasteless or maybe Asian tongue that had different taste  Ani doesn’t know. Her study to Germany makes her more respect to Indonesian food so much 😊

Knowing about German food that totally different with Indonesian food was a long time before  Ani went to Germany.  Ani prepared so many things in her suitcase which brought food from Indonesia.  Ani brought rice cooker, rice, balado dried potato, dried meat (abon), and orek tempe.  Ani didn’t like german food was not the only reason  Ani brought them, but  Ani didn’t want to spend my money much more there.  Ani controlled her money as can as possible so  Ani didn’t spend my money to bought a food, but just bought souvenirs for her family. In the end,  Ani became the one who spent money least than her friends and it was an achievement for herself.
